The Nice House

The Nice House is a light gage steel frame dwelling designed by University of Arizona student Peter McBride as his fourth year studio project under the supervision of Professor Corky Poster. His design objectives were to create an affordable dwelling of approximately 1200 square feet that optimized environmental, spatial and programmatic considerations. His partner in this project is Habitat for Humanity Tucson.

The Design-Build Studio 2006 took on this project as its construction agenda. The studio focused its educational objectives upon the construction of an affordable steel frame residence for a low-income family in Tucson. Professor Mary Hardin saw the drawings through the permit process and supervised the construction until August, 2006.

The residence is approximately 1280 square feet and will house a family selected and qualified by the Habitat for Humanity Tucson homeownership program.
